Choosing Kitchen Cutlery

Making an investment in a decent set of kitchen cutlery is not a decision which should be taken lightly. It may be tempting to pick up a chef’s knife set because it is easy but that most likely will not provide the best results over the long haul. No doubt you’ve noticed that no matter how many knives you own you have favorites and it might include a fillet knife from one set, a paring knife from another set and a bread knife from a third set. When you want to buy or shop for cutlery it’s best to take your time and do as much research as possible before you act.

One way to learn a lot about cutlery and knives is to look online – this is more convenient than driving around from store to store and unless you have a local cutlery store you are not going to get much help from a sales associate at a big box store anyway. Take a look at the websites of the stores where you normally buy your kitchen and cooking goods – since you already do business there you have some idea of the level of customer service and the confidence they will stand behind what they sell.
When you look at those sites you can identify the top brands and if you want to dig deeper you can always go directly to the individual manufacturer’s websites which are quite helpful when it comes to learning about knife design, quality and construction as well as resources. Just remember that the manufacturer’s sites are still a form of advertising geared toward getting you to buy their brand; the store sites generally just aim to sell product without a bias toward any particular manufacturer.
