Causes & Treatment of Headaches During Menopause

(Guest Post)

Menopause headaches can be excruciating, to say the least. They can even get worse to the point that they turn into horrible migraines. So, along with other symptoms, such as hair loss, weight gain, acne, and breaking nails, headaches due to menopause is all too common.

Why Does It Happen?
Menopause headaches happen for the same reasons that all the other menopausal symptoms occur: hormones. And not just hormones in general, but the fact that a woman's primary hormones that once used to control her menstrual cycle, are now fluctuating and becoming imbalanced. As a result from this, many women during menopause and perimenpause will experience horrible headaches. Of course, the range will vary from each woman, from mild to severe. Unfortunately, severe headaches during these times are not uncommon. Some women even end up with a migraine that in turns, causes them to become nauseous during and they may end up vomiting. Even more unfortunate, is that if a headache has turned into a migraine, then this can last from a mere hour, to several hours or even a week long!

Perimenopause and Headaches
So, let's say that you're in your forties, and you're experiencing such headaches for the first time. Your best bet is to go visit your doctor to find out exactly what's going on. That being said, don't be surprised if these pains will have stemmed from perimenopause. How long will this last? Each woman is different, with a different variety of side effects, as well as how long said side effects will last, how frequent they are, and how severe they are. As such, each stage in menopause is the same, as in it all varies from each individual to the next. However, perimenopause can last for years. It's basically the stage that leads up to menopause itself. During this stage, you will experience a wide range of different symptoms, which can include headaches.

Treatments
Luckily, menopause headaches can be treated by a variety of different options. Many approaches can even be natural. Here is a list of a few effective treatments:

Nutrition: Make sure to get a good diet in every day. Eating healthy is the first step to being healthy. Make sure that you're getting all of your nutrition in on a daily basis.
Menopause Supplements: Supplementing your body which much needed vitamins and nutrients during menopause can relieve the vast majority of your symptoms. There are a variety of supplements available, but Kuhl Care (www.kuhlcare.com) apprears to be the best menopause supplement available.
Herbs: A common way of treating some health problems is to take herbs. Scullcap, feverfew, lavender oil and peppermint oil are all natural pain reducers, and may help with your headaches.
Caffeine: Though stimulants are usually best avoided when it comes to menopausal symptoms, a headache is one of the few exceptions. This is because caffeine is a natural reducer of pain regarding headaches. That being said, to avoid insomnia (another menopausal symptom), make sure you don't drink caffeine anywhere near bedtime. Likewise, too much caffeine could be your problem and, if this is so, cutting back may do the trick.
Over-The-Counter: When in doubt, visit your local pharmacist for over-the-counter medications for headaches. Also, some women report that progesterone cream is a great way to help with menopause headaches.
Doctor Time: If none of these work, it's best to consult your doctor.

Menopause headaches can be a nuisance. By learning more about this problem and using helpful advice, you may be able to tackle and solve this issue.
