Interior Design and Lighting

Lighting is highly important for a room. It provides ambience and setting for those most important moments. You can improve shoddy interior design with a small change in lighting, and likewise a room with a beautiful aesthetic can be ruined when the sun goes down and a room is badly lit.

For example, one area of the house that is nearly always neglected when it comes to lighting is the staircase. In most houses stairways are viewed as nothing but a throughway, serving a purpose rather than offering a design statement. There are a few little tips which can improve your stair case. Spotlights in the ceiling can add a much needed lift to your staircase. How about adding art to the walls with small spotlights accentuating them?

It is important that different levels of light can be achieved in a room. If light can affect moods and atmosphere then it is important that you can change the vibe with different lighting combinations. Table lamps are brilliant for this. There are plenty of wonderful European designs available at the London based Geoffrey Harris store.

Each room in a house calls for a different feel of lighting. For example a dining room needs a certain amount of light to create a good eating atmosphere. Lights with dimmer switches are essential to good lighting at a dinner party. If there is too much light, your guests complexions can look strained. A living room should have a main overhead light, but also a small light should be next to every seating position. This is to ensure wherever you are in a room you can choose between a full range of light for whatever you are doing, whether it is reading or relaxing in front of the TV.

Taking these tips in mind, Geoffrey Harris have a massive selection of quality lamps so you can ensure that your home has a decent lighting level. It'll make all the difference.
