Inside the Minds of Kimye and Their New Baby

Everyone in the U.K. is all abuzz about the impending birth of new royalty, but in the U.S., pop “royalty” was already born on June 15th, 2013. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their first baby girl three weeks early and immediately became the butt of every comedian’s jokes when it was announced that they had decided to name the little one North West. As baby North was finally released from the hospital and America waits for her to make her debut, however, “Kimye” and their families have never stayed too far out of the spotlight. So what exactly is the story behind that name? And how are Kim and Kanye adjusting to being new parents?

What’s in a Name?

Despite initially quelling rumors early in her pregnancy that they were considering the unconventional pun for their baby’s name, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise to Kimye fans (or critics) when it was revealed that they really had gone with North. In the first interviews with the Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner since the birth of her granddaughter, however, she discussed the actual meaning behind the name. Rather than being based on the direction, Jenner claims, the couple chose North because of its symbolism as “the highest power.” Kim and Kanye refer to the baby as “their highest point together,” and call her their own personal North Star. Of course, unorthodox celebrity names are nothing new around Hollywood, so North West will simply join the ranks of such kids as Blue Ivy Carter and Apple Martin.

The Early Birth

Since her due date wasn’t until mid-July, Kim Kardashian was understandably nervous when she began going into labor in mid-June. Though initially described as a “medical emergency,” Kim’s doctors convinced her that, while the delivery was early, the baby was ready to come out. According to US Weekly, North’s birth weight was 4 lbs, 15 oz. Mother and baby had to spend a week in the hospital before it was confirmed that she was healthy enough to go home, but there were no real complications from the early delivery.

Their Home Life

While reports about how the couple and their new baby are doing have all come secondhand from other members of the family, they all claim that the transition into parenthood has gone very smoothly for both Kim and Kanye. The baby is nicknamed “Nori” by her family, and both parents have been making her their top priority. Though she doesn’t yet sleep through the night, family members report that she is well on her way. She has been described as a “happy, smiley baby,” and she has a constant stream of well-wishers streaming into the Jenner home outside L.A. looking to meet her. Obviously, TV cameras are another staple when it comes to anyone in the Kardashian clan. North West will eventually appear on new episodes of the family’s reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E! The channel is available through direct-ticket.net as well as other cable and satellite TV companies.

Her Big Debut

When both of her parents are such a constant presence in the media, it only makes sense that everyone is wondering when they will see the debut of North West. The family is keeping it under wraps when that day will come, but it is rumored that there have already been multi-million dollar deals put in place for the first official photo-shoots. For now, however, the family is mostly just keeping to themselves after the long pregnancy and stressful birth. They are enjoying their newest addition like a regular family despite the fact that little North West is already a big celebrity.
